When you get a request to come style a wedding inspiration shoot for 3 days at a resort... who can say no?
We traveled to Honey Creek Resort in Southern Iowa and shoot the experience of a bridal party from the moment they check-in to the moment they check-out and all the fun they have along the way.
We quickly put together the best of the best to pull off such a fun shoot. This meant transporting props, cakes, flowers, models, invites, hair & make-up team, dresses, furniture AND packing for a 3 day workation = work + vacation.
Thank you to all of our models & vendors that made this shoot an amazing experience.

DAY 1 - CHECK IN & EXPLORE THE PROPERTY
With so much property to explore and only have 3 days to take it all in we checked in and quickly started exploring. From the front desk of the resort you can look out GIANT window and see the lake and rolling hills with lumbering oak trees. They have done a magnificent job perfecting the wild nature preserve look with modern landscaping. We walked down the grand staircase that leads to an amazing & perfectly manicured lawn. This area would be perfect for a giant tented outdoor wedding or a simple ceremony. From there we found the beach to cool down a little before exploring more. From there we headed to the marina to check out the boats and then ended the evening with some drinks and s'mores at their beautiful fire pit.

DAY 2 - THE WEDDING DAY
We woke up on our first full day at the resort to a beautiful scenery of fog rolling in off the lake and a small heard of deer right outside the back of our cottages. We got into hair and make-up quickly to try and catch the early morning fog but just as quickly as beauty comes
it goes just as fast.
We started off with all our gorgeous detail shots of Invites by EMDESIGNS, flowers by CAMBAM CUSTOM FLORAL, rings by NECKER'S JEWELERS, cake & cupcakes by LITTLE BLACKBIRD BAKERY, gowns and accessories by PURE BRIDAL, furniture by REPINNED and then explored the property for more gorgeous shots. We ended our evening shooting on their gorgeous golf course and in their pavilion and then called day to a wrap.

THE FOOD & DRINKS
The perfect pairing of drinks and food for you and your guests can make or break the mood of your big day.
Thankfully at Honey Creek Resort they have an amazing restaurant and catering department. We asked them to supply us with some great options for the hungriest of guys to the pickiest of eaters.... and boy did they deliver. They made an amazing STACKED BBQ Burger & house chips paired with a beer from a local Iowa brewery, a tender and delicious steak with asparagus and their secret & ohhhh so tasty mashed potatoes with a Sriracha Bloody Mary , a thin sliced chicken breast with carrots and a baked potato and the most tasty green apple & strawberry martini I have ever tasted. To finish of the meal they served a hearty strawberry & blueberry crepe dusted in powder sugar and served with a perfectly refreshing blueberry lemonade cocktail.

DAY 3 - ENJOYING THE AMMENITIES
The nice thing about having your wedding at a resort is that your guests will not run out of fun things to do in their down time. As soon as we woke up we enjoyed breakfast on their beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the lake and marina. After our bellies were full we decided to check out the waterpark. It is an amazing family friendly waterpark with nothing big or scary for slides but it is perfect to relax in. Next we rented a pontoon from Quality Power Sports at the marina located on the resort property and took a nice tour of the lake. After coming back to land we decided to make a quick trip into town which is about 20 miles away. We visited some amazing shops in Centerville where we ran across a gem of an Ice Cream parlor called Morgan's. We were in for quite the treat. After returning to the resort we took turns learning how to canoe, kayak and paddleboard and of course you can't be on a beach without playing a little sand volleyball. We ended our night and our stay at Honey Creek Resort with a perfect lantern ceremony.
